Zephyr Pfotenhauer was born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA amidst a large extended family of artists, designers and educators who placed a high value on storytelling and tall tales both real and imagined. At 20, a series of fortunate events propelled Zephyr to London, UK, where she pursued a BA Honors in Fine Art from Middlesex University London, graduating in 2005. After a grueling year as a nanny of seven kids in Zürich she fled the idylls of Switzerland for the flat and gridded streets of the American Midwest and an MA in Visual and Critical Studies from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (2008).
Zephyr returned to Santa Cruz County in 2009 and has since displayed her paintings, drawings, screenprints and jewelry designs in numerous venues around the Bay Area. She was the Good Times Weekly's Featured Artist in April 2013 and was commissioned by the Museum of Art and History at the McPherson Center in downtown Santa Cruz to paint a mural (her first) welcoming visitors to the exhibition “Journey Forth” in October of 2013. She has taught art classes for both children and adults and works as an illustrator and graphic artist for publications such as Edible Monterey Bay and local craft beer champions Discretion Brewing.

She can also be found on Instagram at @zephyrpfo or around Boulder Creek, CA, where she currently resides with her son Dante, husband Ben, cats Gwendolyn and Cecile, twelve unnamed chickens, roughly 40,000 bees and several illegitimate skunks.
